Harken #2, San Francisco Bay

That last post was my mom... for those of you who got the email. She's real proud. However, the cool part of Harken #2 was that we got to practice in 35+ knots of wind, and the regatta was kinda windy, kinda light, and it was a great warm up for Team Trials. Seems like a long time ago, but we just got the photos, so here's my favorite one.

National Team Practice at Lake Lanier in Georgia

This was a fun practice because it was all team racing. We sailed on a lake with super shifty conditions, which made the team racing very difficult. A boat could be in last place and hit a corner, get a huge shift and be in first if no one covered them. The first day it was kind of light around 5 to 7  knots. On the second day it picked up to 15 then the third day it was really light so we came in and did our fitness run. We ran the three mile course for time. I got 19 minutes and 45 seconds, which is my best time yet. We went out again and did 4 on 4 and my team won 2 races and lost one. We launched off the beach, but the water was really cold, so I would balance on the dolly and then jump in the boat then put the center board and the rudder in, on the water. They had good food too and a big fire so every one could hang up there wet stuff before they went home. The house I stayed at was a little cabin. It was close to the yacht club so we could walk back and forth from the yacht club. On the flight there and on the way home I had window seats. On the way home I slept pretty much the whole time. Nothing much happened while traveling so I won't bore you with the details.  Headed to San Francisco next!

National Team practice at Davis Island Yacht Club In Florida

The night before I flew to Florida for a National Team Practice, my Mom realized that I could not transfer planes as an unaccompanied minor.  I had no flight home. We finally found a flight home with two of my friends Jack and Will. We flew to Las Vegas then to Oakland.

Now for the practice. It was cold in Florida because of a cold front. The wind was good on the second and third day but it was light the first day. We sailed between two bridges so there was no swell but lots of chop when it got windy. I got three sevenths in 6 races. I also got second in the 3 mile run. On the way home we flew Southwest Airlines so you got to sit where ever you want so we were the first ones off  the plane because we were in the first row. In Las Vegas there was so many slot machines it was insane. Then when we got to San Francisco. I stayed with my friend Will and then I flew home to Burbank. Then I had 3 hours to rest befored a Lacrosse practice. Ugh!!!
