The Sailing Odyssey

We drove to San Francisco on the 30th of July.  It took seven hours. We practiced with a coach from Argentina named Manuel Resaro (Manny). We sailed with him for four days and I learned a lot.  Then we drove to the Columbia Gorge and sailed for another five days (a three day clinic and a two day regatta).  I ended up in 6th place at the West Coast Championships  Will Cefali, Kristopher Swanson and I flew to LAX from Portland. We were picked up by Mr. and Mrs. O'Connor. Will and Kristopher stayed at the O'Connor's house for one night and I stayed for four nights with Ian Stokes, Anthony Norris and Connor Swikart.  We were a rowdy bunch. The next day we went over to CBYC for the first day of the four day National Team Practice. We ran three miles the first day and two miles the next two days.  We sailed every day for five hours straight.  I got so sore I could hardly walk.  Then my mom and dad picked me up and I sailed the PCC's.  I sailed 15 out of 19 days!

Wow Dane,

What a great summer you're having!

Remember to keep the wind at your back and the sun in your face.

Love, Aunt Leslie
